How Prospects Really Choose a Wealth Advisor (And Why Being Understood Comes First)
Most wealth marketing treats the prospect like a shopper who compares fees and track records before choosing. The research suggests many people decide differently. In a TransUnion survey, 58% of prospective investors put trust and reputation at the top of their list. Morningstar found that 60% of advisor clients hired for emotional reasons, and a Dynasty Financial Partners survey found that 57% of high-net-worth investors chose the first advisor they spoke with. Meanwhile, advisors spoke about 70% of the time in more than 100 recorded first meetings, and half of investors with $5 million or more found their advisor without a referral. AI summaries are also changing how prospects find firms, with fewer clicks reaching websites.
